About converting Excel to HTML
Converting an Excel sheet to an HTML table is a common need for anyone putting a price list, timetable, results table or spec sheet on a website. Excel's own "Save as Web Page" output is full of inline styles, conditional comments and generated class names. This converter writes clean markup that drops into a WordPress HTML block, a static site template or an email builder and picks up the site's own CSS.
The output is a bare <table> with a <thead> row of <th> cells from the header row and a <tbody> with one <tr> per data row. There are no class names, inline styles, borders or widths. Add a class to the <table> tag yourself, or style table elements globally in your stylesheet.
Characters that mean something in HTML, such as <, > and &, are escaped, so cell text is always shown as text and never runs as markup. That also means a cell containing a link is shown as the URL text rather than a clickable link. Merged cells are not rebuilt with colspan or rowspan. The value sits in the first cell and the others are empty. The table covers the first 1,000 rows of the first sheet.

A small orders export with an ID, a customer name, a date, an amount (one missing) and a true/false flag, converted with the default settings.

</table>What changes when you convert Excel to HTML
- The header row becomes <th> cells inside <thead>.
- Each data row becomes a <tr> of <td> cells inside <tbody>.
- Empty cells become empty <td></td> elements, as in order 1004's amount.
- <, >, & and double quotes in cell text are escaped as HTML entities.
- No styles, classes or attributes are added to any element.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my HTML table have no borders?
The markup has no styling on purpose, so it inherits your site's CSS. Add something like table, th, td { border: 1px solid #ccc; } to your stylesheet, or a class on the table tag.
Are hyperlinks in Excel cells kept as links?
No. The converter reads the displayed cell text, so a hyperlink cell becomes plain text. Wrap those values in <a> tags after conversion if they need to be clickable.
Are merged cells converted to colspan or rowspan?
No. The value stays in the top-left cell of the merged area and the other cells are empty. Add colspan or rowspan by hand if the layout depends on them.
