Privacy Policy

Local file processing
Conversion, querying, and transformation run inside your browser. We do not upload your files to our servers. The optional geocoder sends the values in your selected address column to OpenStreetMap Nominatim, as explained below. Closing the tab clears the local data.
No accounts
You do not need an account to use SmartQueryTools, and we do not offer one. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personal details in order to use the tools.
Dataset search in the Data Catalog
The Data Catalog lets you search public data portals such as Our World in Data, CKAN-based portals, and Socrata. When you type a search, the search text — and only the search text — is proxied through our API to the relevant portal so we can return results. Your files are never involved in these requests, and we do not store your search queries.
Remote datasets in the SQL workspace
If you load a remote dataset in the SQL workspace, your browser fetches that dataset directly from the third-party host that publishes it. The request goes from your device to that host — it does not pass through our servers. The host may see your IP address and standard request details, as with any website you visit, and its own privacy policy applies to that request.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most hosting providers, Vercel may log standard request metadata — such as IP address, user agent, and requested URL — for operational and security purposes. These logs relate to page and API requests only; they never contain your file data.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure visits and which tool pages are used. Analytics can set cookies and sends usage and device information to Google. We send page paths without URL query parameters or fragments; SQL, search text, form values, and uploaded file contents are not included in our analytics events. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. We do not run advertising on this site.
Optional address geocoding
When you choose to geocode a CSV, each value in the selected address column is sent from your browser to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to find its coordinates. Other columns are not included in those requests. The service can see those addresses, your IP address, and standard request details. Only use this feature with addresses you are comfortable sharing with that service. Its privacy policy applies to these requests.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes to data handling will be reflected here before they take effect.
